Abducted Edo medical doctor, Ibrahim Tahir, has been released from captivity after his family paid N50 million ransom.

The victim was kidnapped alongside  his younger brother on January 2, at their residence along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi, while opening the gate to their compound.

The father of the victim disclosed yesterday that the ransom was paid in two tranches of N20 million and N30 million before his son was released on Wednesday by 8pm.

He said the money was raised by the family and through donations froam non-governmental bodies, friends and others.

“My son has been released by the kidnappers after we paid N50 million. I feel good that he has been released but I also lost another son.

“The family, organisations, friends and well-wishers contributed the N50 million ransom. My son was brushed by a bullet but he is receiving treatment at a hospital”, the father of the freed medical doctor added.

He said he was told by the vigilante and hunters, who laid ambush for the kidnappers before his son was released, that one of the kidnappers also sustained gunshot wounds.

Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the release of the medical doctor over whose abduction members of the Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), had threatened to down tools.

Ibrahim was abducted along with his younger brother on January 2 at their residence along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi, while opening the gate to their compound.

The dead body of his younger brother, who was also a medical doctor, was found by Orley River, Down City Pride road, on January 5 as he was said to have been killed by his abductors.
