Akwa-Ibom

From Isaac Job, Uyo

The people of Ekeya/Atabong communities in Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have received a brand new transformer after seven years without electricity in the community.

Speaking during the presentation, Ovong Edidem Ita Okokon said the transformer was donated by Albert Asuquo as part of his contribution to community development.

He said Asuquo also sponsored medical outreach for widows, elders and widows in the community.

The benefitting villages from  the medical outreach in the area were Edem Eniang, Edem Iko and Obot Inwang Ekeya within the Okobo council area of the state.

Asuquo while addressing the people at the presentation and commissioning of electricity transformer, said he started electricity project in the community when he was a youth leader as he raised the issue during Okobo Youth Leaders  meeting

“I’m not doing this because I have too much, but because I love my people.

“Growth is not measured by what you achieve for yourself, but by how much your community grows through you.”

He donated money for installation of air conditioner and general maintenance at the palace of Attah  and disbursed another N1.5m to support the youths, women, elders and the Atabong Council of Chiefs, adding that various stakeholders should be engaged  to ensure continuity and sustainability of local developments.

One of the chiefs, Ovong Edidem Ita Okokon and Attah Oro Viii, while pronouncing words of blessings on Asuquo for his benevolence to the community and his  commitment to grassroots development urged other young people in the area to emulate him.

“The smiles and gratitude of the beneficiaries are a testament to what inclusive and compassionate leadership can achieve.

“The community will experience electricity after seven years of remaining in darkness. Let all young people emulate this young man so that our community can grow.

“This transformative project, facilitated by the Albert Initiative for Development, marks a new dawn for the community.

The President of  Okobo Development Union (ODU), Prince Edward Walter, also lauded the benefactor for being a beacon of hope and joined with Chief Ibok, Chairman of the Atabong Clan Council, to award him the honorary title of “Utuenikang Atabong” (The Light of Atabong).

Beneficiaries prayed and wished the donor well in all his endeavours: “We pray to God to continue to bless our donor and sustain him for more development in our communities.”
