Former Senate President, David Mark, has felicitated with the publisher of Vanguard newspapers and veteran journalist, Sam Amuka, on the occasion of his 90th birthday, describing him as the doyen of Nigerian journalism and a pillar of the nation’s socio-political evolution.

In a goodwill message issued by his Special Adviser, Paul Mumeh, Mark extolled Amuka’s monumental contributions to the growth of the journalism profession and Nigeria’s democratic development, noting that both the media and the country owe him a debt of gratitude for his unwavering commitment over several decades.

“Sam Amuka’s life and career have been defined by passion, courage, and an unshakable belief in the power of the press to inform, educate, and build the nation,” Mark said.

Reflecting on Amuka’s early years in journalism, the former Senate President recalled his influential column in the defunct Daily Times of Nigeria, which he said shaped public opinion and guided national development long before the establishment of Vanguard newspapers.

He described Amuka as a trailblazer whose work not only transformed media practice in Nigeria but also served as a compass for ethical journalism and leadership.

He urged the nonagenarian to continue sharing his vast experience with younger generations of journalists and leaders, emphasizing that his enduring legacy remains a valuable resource for the country.

The ex-lawmaker also offered prayers for Amuka’s continued good health, peace, and wisdom in the years ahead.

“May God’s grace continue to abound in your life. I wish you peace, strength and good health as you celebrate this remarkable milestone,” Mark said.
