As the nation marks Democracy Day, Hon. Ifeanyi Elvis Ogbonna, popularly known as Ignes, has urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in safeguarding the country’s hard-won democratic journey, while expressing confidence in a brighter future under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership.

In a heartfelt press statement he personally signed on Wednesday, June 11, to commemorate June 12, a day symbolising Nigeria’s democratic aspirations, Hon. Ogbonna, who is also the CEO of Visteon International Company and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), acknowledged the deep economic challenges confronting the nation but called on citizens to stay united and patriotic.

“It would be a disservice to our shared reality if I fail to acknowledge the difficult economic challenges currently confronting us as a nation,” Ogbonna said.

“Yet, in the face of these trials, I urge us all to stand firm, united in purpose, and committed to preserving our democracy.”

He paid tribute to the heroes of Nigeria’s democratic struggle, especially the late Chief MKO Abiola, GCFR, whom he described as “the symbol of that struggle,” alongside civil society activists and brave Nigerians who fought for the return of civilian rule in 1999.

“June 12 remains a profound symbol of our national aspirations: for unity, justice, a better quality of life, and genuine democratic governance,” Ogbonna said.

“It is a day that calls for celebration, introspection, redirection, and renewed patriotism.”

To his constituents in Ohafia and Arochukwu, Hon. Ogbonna offered a message of hope and reassurance, promising that “your tears will be wiped away, and your dreams will not only be fulfilled but surpassed. You are not forgotten.”

He urged Nigerians to rise above negativity and division, emphasising that the responsibility to build a prosperous and united Nigeria lies in the hands of every citizen.

As the country celebrates 26 years of uninterrupted democratic rule and the 31st anniversary of the historic June 12, 1993 presidential election, Ogbonna reaffirmed his commitment to the “Renewed Hope” agenda of the Tinubu administration.

“As a proud member and chieftain of our great party, I reaffirm that President Tinubu is unwavering in his commitment to this vision,” he stated.

“He is deploying every necessary resource to ensure that all Nigerians, across every region and community, begin to experience the tangible dividends of democracy.”

Concluding his Democracy Day message, Ogbonna expressed optimism that this year’s celebration would rekindle national hope and deepen collective resolve.

“May this June 12 rekindle our hope, strengthen our unity, and deepen our resolve to build the Nigeria we all desire,” he said.
