From Isaac Anumihe, Abuja
The national grid has experienced its first disturbance of the year, leaving millions of Nigerians without electricity.
As of the time of reporting, the grid managers, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), have not reacted.
Recall that the last grid collapse happened in December 2024, marking the 11th time the grid collapsed in 2024.
Expectedly, the nation recorded its first partial collapse this year, and the nation is in the dark again despite the investment the federal government claimed to have made in the sector.
Recall that there was a grid collapse in January last year that sent many Nigerians and businesses into inactivity.
On February 4 and 5, 2024, Nigerians suffered a blackout that led to losses in revenue.
Again, on April 15, the nation recorded yet another devastating grid disturbance. As usual, the nation lost a huge amount of revenue owing to the blackout.
Also, on August 6, there was a major grid disturbance that threw part of the nation into darkness.
On October 15, there was yet another disturbance, leading to a serious blackout in the country.
On October 19, the nation recorded a grid collapse, followed by another one on October 22.
On November 5, 2024, the nation recorded a major grid collapse that threw the nation into sudden darkness.
The November 7 incident was the height of the disaster, prompting strong vituperations and condemnations from both consumers and policymakers, to the extent that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adekola Adelabu, to seek a quick and permanent solution to the problem.
Yet again, on December 11, 2024, there was another grid collapse.
