Meta has announced the launch of the Llama 3.1 Impact Grants programme, a global initiative dedicated to supporting innovative applications of open-source AI for addressing critical social challenges.

The programme will provide up to $2 million in funding to organisations worldwide, with special focus on projects that benefit communities in Africa, the Middle East and Turkey.

The Llama 3.1 Impact Grants programme seeks to empower organizations to leverage the power of AI for social good. By providing financial support and mentorship, Meta aims to foster the development of impactful AI solutions that address a wide range of challenges, including economic development, science and innovation, and public service.

“We are inspired by the potential of AI to drive positive change around the world. The Llama 3.1 Impact Grants programme is an opportunity to support organizations that are using AI to address some of the most pressing challenges facing our communities”, said Kojo Boakye, Vice President, Public Policy, Africa, the Middle East, and Turkiye, Meta.

To support applicants, Meta will host a series of regional events, including hackathons, workshops, and training sessions across the globe. These events will provide technical guidance and mentorship, as well as opportunities for networking and collaboration.

The application window for the Llama 3.1 Impact Grants is open from August 5 to November 22, 2024. Selected recipients will be announced early next year.
