In a statement he signed, Lalong said, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our Plateau State APC Publicity Secretary, Mr. Sylvanus Namang. The gruesome murder, perpetrated by unidentified gunmen in Pankshin, following his attendance at a funeral event in Mangu, has left me devastated.
“Mr. Namang, an accomplished journalist, politician, and community leader, played a significant role in our party. I strongly condemn this unfortunate act and call upon security agencies to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice.
“While it is premature to ascertain the motives behind this assassination, his death is undeniably a profound loss to his family, as well as to the APC in our State and the nation. Sylvanus Namang’s journey from a successful media career to his impactful role as our State Publicity Secretary will be remembered.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved family, and I pray for God’s comfort during this difficult time. Rest assured, the APC family is committed to uncovering the truth behind this heinous act and ensuring that those responsible face the consequences.
Meanwhile pieces of details have emerged on how the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Sylvanus Namang was killed.
Namang was reportedly killed in Pankshin on Saturday while hanging out with some friends at a relaxation spot.
Our correspondent gathered that the deceased had attended a burial ceremony at his home town in Mangu.
,
Namang was said to have left Mangu for Pankshin thereafter for a private visit before he was gunned down in a relaxation spot where he was hanging out with some friends.
It was gathered that the gunmen, numbering about 10 had gone straight to where Namang was sitting and shot him at close range. After killing Namang, the hoodlums were said to have dragged the owner of the spot away and his body discovered along the road few minutes later.
A source in the party, who spoke anonymously said, “When I learnt of the incident, I tried to confirm it from few friends but nobody could confirm or deny it. I learnt that even his wife was not aware of his death until late morning on Sunday because she was said to be in the church as at 10 am.”
The source, who described Namang as a compassionate and frank man said, “He did not deserve this kind of death. This is brutal and unnecessary.”
The source who did not rule out a sinister motive behind the killing said, “We are suspecting strongly that there is more to this incident than meets the eye. If it were a case of armed robbery why did they not take anything from him and if it were kidnapping, why not simply take him away?
When our correspondent contacted the Police Public Relations Officer Officer, Alfred Alabo, he said he could not talk as he was in a meeting.
An accomplished and consummate journalist, Namang was one time director with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) where he served as General Manager of Lafia FM Radio for 4 years before he became the spokesman of All Progressive Congress (APC) in his home State.
He also worked with the late Deputy Senate President Senator Ibrahim Mantu as his Chief Press Secretary.
