The Minister of Transportation, Sen. Sa’id Ahmed Alkali has declared his commitment to overhauling the country’s transportation system. In his observation, an efficient transport system would greatly benefit various sectors such as agriculture, tourism, industrialization, marine and blue economy as well as manufacturing, trade, and national integration.
Alkali stated this while declaring open a two-day retreat on the cascading of the signed performance bond. He explained that successes in the transportation sector will translate into prosperity for all stakeholders along the value chain as well as contributing to economic growth and diversification.
This was contained in a statement that was issued by the Special Assistant (SA) to the Minister of Transportation on Media and Publicity, Umar Alkali Jibrin.
The Minister stated that the importance of the retreat cannot be over-emphasized, as it provides stakeholders with an opportunity to evaluate progress, strategize, and forge a practical and implementable roadmap on how to pursue corporate goals.
According to him, with the current dwindling resources, the Ministry deems it fit to explore avenues to attract private sector investment and financing for projects and programs through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). He tasked the Permanent Secretary to ensure that directors and other Heads of Agencies disseminate the outcome of the retreat to all officers who are not privileged to attend so as to achieve the set objectives.
Meanwhile, in his paper presentation titled “Principles and Techniques of Cascading Ministerial Scorecard and Presidential Priorities”, the Special Adviser (SA) to the president on political matters, office of the Vice-President, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed explained that to appreciate the dynamics of operational successes or failures, a number of elements need to be identified and prioritized.
According to him, such elements include, “what is the vision of the administration, how realistic is the vision, how does leadership share the vision in a manner that makes it relatively easier to actualize and who should be its champions among others”.
The SA stated that though “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is running the country in a very difficult time, given the current global economic meltdown and security challenges facing the nation, however, he expressed optimism in the leadership of the president towards reversing the trend to prosperity in the nearest future.
