Barely three days to the Supreme Court’s ruling on the matter of extra rendition of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, his members have raised the alarm over an alleged plot by some southern politicians to jeopardise the chances of his freedom.

The spokesperson of the group, Emma Powerful, in a statement, yesterday, disclosed that the IPOB’s intelligence team has uncovered the secret plot.

“IPOB’s intelligence team uncovered the secret plot by some South East politicians and businessmen, with some cabals in government to lobby and pressure the Supreme Court justices to remand our leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in the Department of State Services (DSS) custody or Kuje Prison after December 15, 2023 judgment.

“The idea to keep Kanu in detention was brought forward by some criminals in our land, who claim to be millionaires and politicians. The politicians are preventing his release to further the insecurity challenge in the South East.

“These men are political jobbers, who are sponsoring the insecurity in the South East for their own political gains. They understand that Kanu’s release will restore peace in the South East. They are agents of darkness and enemies of Biafra movement.

“President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s government and the Supreme Court justices must not listen to those pressuring them not to release Kanu unconditionally on December 15 via the apex court’s judgment.

“The Federal Government and the Supreme Court cannot ignore the rule of law, and consent to the wishes of selfish individuals working for their pockets, and who are also against the Nigerian state. These men are not only acting wickedly against Kanu but are also sabotaging the image of the country. These political profiteers are enemies of Nigerians and enemies of peace,” Powerful said.

Powerful, therefore, urged the Supreme Court never to succumb to blackmail and intimidation from those he described as ‘greedy people,’ by failing to release Kanu who had been illegally incarcerated for over 30 months.

“The Appeal Court justices have already acquitted and discharged Kanu last year, but the Federal Government refused to obey the judgment and the court order. We are patiently waiting to see if the Supreme Court justices will be courageous enough to dispense justice. Kanu has not committed any crime known to law,” Powerful said.
