Determined to bridge Nigeria’s huge insurance gap, the in-coming 53rd President/Chairman of Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Mr. Akinjide Orimolade has declared that his foremost priority is to bring the country’s estimated 99 per cent uninsured population into the insurance net.

Orimolade (3rd left) and other members of Investiture C’ttee, during the press brief in Lagos.

Speaking during his Pre- investiture briefing, Orimolade affirmed he would be able to capture a significant number of uninsured Nigerians into insurance safety net through his three – point agenda: technology and innovative leadership, enforcement of compulsory insurances and building capacities.

Not relegating the indispensability of creating awareness and expanding penetration, the strategic focus of his administration will be on improving the physical infrastructures of the Institute in Lagos and across its chapters in all the six geo-political zones of the Federation and Abuja.

Other areas of priority are accelerating digital transformation of procedures at the Institute which will eventually strengthen professional standards and enhancing insurance awareness, to increase penetration and contribute towards Nigeria’s GDP.

“Technology will serve as the engine that powers our transformation. Our administration will embrace digital innovation across the Institute’s operations. We shall enhance our examination processes, expand digital learning opportunities, improve member engagement through technology-driven platforms, leverage data for informed decision-making, and automate key processes to deliver greater efficiency and improved service delivery”

Orimolade who is the current Chief Executive Officer of Stanbic IBTC Insurance Limited, assured that he would uphold transparency, accountability, measurable performance indicators and periodic reviews to ensure that his administration delivers meaningful and sustainable outcomes for all stakeholders and the wider insurance industry.

“The successful execution of these initiatives will enhance professionalism, foster innovation, increase insurance awareness and contribute significantly to building a resilient, inclusive and globally – competitive insurance industry in Nigeria, which will in turn result in a more robust economy for the country”

He recognise that the future of insurance belongs to institutions that are agile, innovative, and technology-enabled, and he is determined to position the CIIN accordingly.

“Our administration will intensify advocacy and public enlightenment on compulsory insurance, working closely with government agencies, regulators, operators, the media, and other stakeholders to increase awareness, improve compliance, and demonstrate the value of insurance as a tool for financial protection and national economic resilience.

“Through sustained education and stakeholder engagement, we believe more Nigerians will appreciate the importance of compulsory insurance and its benefits to individuals, businesses, and society”

The insurance expert avowed to invest in the professional development of his members through curriculum enhancement, faculty development, research, leadership programmes, and initiatives that equip insurance professionals with the requisite competencies in a rapidly changing world.

“We will also continue to strengthen the Institute’s physical infrastructure, in particular our Victoria Island building, while fostering stronger relationships with government agencies, regulators, educational institutions, employers and other stakeholders whose collaborations are essential to the growth of the profession” he averred.
