A 70-year-old woman in Iwoye, Oriade Local Government of Osun State, on Wednesday, narrated how she escaped being raped by an expatriate employed as a labourer in the town.
The woman who is a traditional chief in the town, said she resisted the expatriate from getting into her but confirmed that she was attacked seriously.
The woman said, “I have no dime on me and I decided to go to the farm to harvest plantain. While on my way, a young guy from Cotonou waylaid me and assaulted me. He attempted to rape me. Yes, I can recognize him. The police have arrested him.
“The farm is located at Osunoye along Esa-odo. It happened around 10 am. I noticed someone running at my back but never thought he was running to catch up with me. He threw away the things I was carrying. I tried running but fell along the way. It was while I fell that he tried to force himself on me. I resisted him and this resulted in him biting me on several parts of my body,” the victim narrated.
Noting that she was helpless in the hospital, the septuagenarian woman called for help to get medical treatment and urged the state government to ensure the prosecution of the suspect.
The police spokesperson in the state, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident, saying that the suspect has been arrested and is being investigated.
