A fatal road traffic crash on the Billiri–Gombe highway has claimed the lives of seven persons, including six journalists attached to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Gombe, while four others sustained serious injuries.
The incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Ladongor village in Billiri Local Government Area (LGA) of Gombe State, according to a situation report by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS3.26 Billiri Unit.
The FRSC said the crash involved a lone government-owned Toyota Hummer Bus, with registration number NUJ 01. Preliminary findings attributed the accident to tyre burst.
According to the report, a total of 11 occupants were involved in the crash, eight males and three females. Seven persons (five males and two females) were confirmed dead, while four others (three males and one female) sustained varying degrees of injuries, including fractures, severe open wounds and bruises.

FRSC officials, who arrived at the scene within five minutes of receiving the distress call, administered first aid to the injured before evacuating them to Amana Clinic and the General Hospital, Billiri. Both the injured victims and the bodies of the deceased were later referred and conveyed to the Specialist Hospital, Gombe.
Among those who lost their lives were six staff members of NTA Gombe, identified as, Manu Haruna Kwami, Manager, Administration, Zarah Umar, Manager, News, Isa (Editor), Musa Tabra, retired Manager, News and Aminu, Driver as well as Adams, Startimes.
Another victim, Judith Information Officer (I.O) attached Gombe SUBEB, was also listed among the deceased. Those reported to have sustained severe injuries include Emmanuel Akila, Steven Doddo, Nina, and Jonathan Bara, who are currently receiving medical attention.
The incident has thrown the media community in Gombe State into mourning, marking one of the deadliest days for the journalism profession in the state in recent years.
