A fire that engulfed a 5-million-litre diesel storage tank at an Apapa oil terminal was successfully extinguished on Friday, with no casualties recorded, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has said.
The incident occurred at the Bono Energy Terminal within the Ibru Jetty Complex, along the Apapa–Oworonshoki Expressway by Coconut Bus Stop, Olodi Apapa.
The Controller General of the service, Margaret Adeseye, said the emergency was reported at 12:04 p.m. on Friday.
The fire service boss stated that firefighters from Ajegunle, Sari Iganmu, and Isolo Fire Stations arrived at the scene at 12:16 hours.
“The incident involved a 5-million-litre Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) storage tank, which was engulfed in flames,” Adeseye said.
According to her, the fire was brought under control and fully extinguished by 1:54 p.m through coordinated efforts with emergency teams from neighbouring oil and gas facilities.
“The prompt intervention prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining tanks and critical infrastructure, thereby minimizing potential losses. No casualty was recorded,” the statement added.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and remains under investigation.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said it appreciated the cooperation of emergency responders and stakeholders whose collaboration aided containment.
