Abuja will once again take centre stage in Nigerian tennis as the 47th edition of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Championship serves off on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the Tennis Complex of Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

The week-long tournament, sponsored by the Central Bank of Nigeria, will run until June 20, when champions across various categories will be crowned at the grand finale in the nation’s capital.

The championship will feature competition in the men’s and women’s singles and doubles events, as well as wheelchair tennis categories for both men and women, bringing together some of the country’s top players.

For nearly five decades, the CBN Senior Tennis Championship has remained a key platform for talent identification and development in Nigeria, producing several players who have gone on to represent the country at major international competitions, including the Davis Cup and the All-Africa Games.

Widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most prestigious domestic tennis tournaments, the championship has helped nurture notable stars such as Sunday Maku, David Imonite, Veronica Oyibokia-Iwebema, Christy Agugbom, Sarah Adegoke, Sylvester Emmanuel, Joseph Imeh, Oyinlomo Quadri and Marylove Edwards.

The tournament continues to reflect the CBN’s commitment to youth development, sporting excellence and the growth of tennis across the country, while providing another opportunity for emerging talents to showcase their abilities on the national stage.
