From Femi Folaranmi, Yenagoa
Four people were, Monday evening, confirmed dead in a motor accident at the Famgbe section of the Yenagoa- Oporoma road.
A witness account said the accident involved a Toyota Sienna, which had a head-on collision with a tricycle popularly called Keke. The vehicle was driving towards Oporoma, while the tricycle was returning to Yenagoa when both collided at Famgbe.
The witness said the driver of the tricycle and the three passengers he carried died on the spot, but passengers in the vehicle were not affected. The witness noted that the heavy rainfall, which affected visibility, coupled with the darkness, contributed to the accident.
“The vehicle and the tricycle drove when it was already dark. The rain also did not help matters. That section of the road is a bend, so a driver needs to navigate it with experience. It was a head-on collision with a very strong impact. The driver and the passengers in the tricycle were affected. They died before help could come. Unfortunately, because it was dark and it was raining, residents of Famgbe community, who could have helped to take the victims to the hospital, were unable to. It is sad,’’ a source in the area said.
Other sources said the police later came to the scene and moved the dead bodies to the Federal Medical Centre mortuary.
