The Kebbi State Police Command has detained three of its officers over the death of a suspected criminal in Jega town.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Kebbi State Police Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar confirmed this in a statement made available to newsmen.
According to him, “on 15/4/2025, based on a complaint of stolen rims of trailer truck reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Jega, one Abubakar Auwal was arrested in connection with the case.
“On 16/4/2025 at about 06:00hrs, while the investigation was ongoing, the suspect collapsed in detention. As a result of that, he was rushed to the General Hospital, Jega, for treatment, but he died on the same date at about 22:00hrs.
“In view of the above, foul play in the circumstances leading to the death of Abubakar Auwal was suspected. Hence, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, Bello M. Sani directed the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet investigation, during which three officers were found culpable and are currently detained at the SCID for further investigation and disciplinary action, while the DPO has been queried and transferred with immediate effect.
