The Federal Government said it has made financial provision to support two million women in agribusiness activities across the country.
It announced this just as the first lady, Oluremi Tinubu, presented bank drafts of N10 million each to the wives of the state governors to support women and youth farmers to produce food and earn incomes.
The Executive Secretary, National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), Paul Ikonne, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja at the weekend, stating that the first lady flagged off the Renewed Hope Initiative in Owerri, Imo State, as part of efforts to boost food production by women farmers.
Ikonne said NALDA was committed to partnering with the first lady in encouraging women, especially the young ones, in agribusiness, adding that the agency had made provision for two million women.
“NALDA has made provision for two million women under this programme, supporting and working with the wife of the president,” he stated.
The Renewed Hope Initiative birthed by the first lady is a grassroots scheme designed to improve the lives of Nigerians across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
The scheme, which aims to empower women farmers and tackle poverty, was flagged off by Tinubu in conjunction with the NALDA.
In her address, the president’s wife said, “the Renewed Hope Initiative’s commitment to supporting women farmers aligns with a broader national agenda to strengthen the agricultural sector.” She said the Federal Government recognises the pivotal role that agriculture and agribusiness activities play in achieving sustainable development and ensuring food sufficiency.
