23 ships carrying fuel, food, general goods expected at Lagos ports

Ports-Nigeria

Lagos ports are preparing for a flurry of activity as 23 ships carrying petroleum products, food items, and other essential goods are expected to arrive at Apapa and Tin-Can Island Ports between December 29 and 31.

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), in its latest `Shipping Position` report, revealed that the incoming vessels will transport a diverse range of cargo, including crude oil, diesel, fuel oil, petrol, aviation fuel, bulk urea, buckwheat, bulk fertiliser, soya beans, bulk sugar, fresh fish, base oil, and containers.

According to the report, three of the ships have already arrived and are waiting to berth, carrying bulk urea, crude oil, and aviation fuel. In addition, 20 other vessels are currently at the ports offloading their cargo, which includes general goods, containers, aviation fuel, petrol, bulk sugar, fresh fish, bulk gas, and base oil.

Port officials say the anticipated arrival of these ships underscores the critical role of Lagos ports in handling Nigeria’s imports and ensuring a steady supply of essential commodities. The activity is expected to support domestic markets and maintain the flow of petroleum products and food supplies as the country heads into the New Year.

The NPA reiterated its commitment to smooth and efficient operations to minimize delays and ensure that cargo reaches its final destination on schedule, emphasizing the strategic importance of Apapa and Tin-Can Island Ports in the national economy.
