A total of 2,227 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to Delta State for the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream II service year on Friday subscribed to relevant oaths.
The figure comprised of 671 males and 1,556 females, according to the state coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Alao Olusegun who spoke during the opening and swearing-in ceremony of the corps members at the Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.
Our correspondent observed that the figure would rise further in the coming days as prospective corps members were still streaming into camp as at the time of the opening ceremony.
Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Tessy Diai, represented by Justice K.O. Okpu, administered the oaths on the corps members.
Olusegun congratulated the corps members for their success in their final examinations, explaining that the orientation course was central to
the realization of the objectives and aspirations of the scheme.
While advising them to adhere to camp rules and regulations, Olusegun thanked the state government for it’s sustained assistance to the NYSC and the camp community.
He however re-echoed his appeal to the state government for the provision of a central office complex as well as the completion of the perimeter fencing at the camp.
“I wish to bring again to the notice of His Excellency some of the nagging problems still confronting the Scheme, a combination of which affect the smooth implementation of our programmes,” he hinted.
The state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori who represented by the Senior Policy Adviser, Solomon Funkekeme, promised to convey the request to the appropriate quarters.
Funkekeme commended the corps members for the comportment so far in camp, urging them to sustain the tempo.
He said the state government would not relent in providing the enabling environment that would guarantee the security and welfare of corps members posted to Delta.
