22 Medical Biochem students of RSU caught in exam malpractices

No fewer than 22 undergraduates of the Rivers State University (RSU), Diobu, were involved in examination malpractice last week in different courses.

The students from the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences in the Department of Medical Biochemistry were caught by invigilators during 2025/2026 first semester exam.

In a memo dated April 7th, 2026 to the Head of Department Medical Biochemistry, the faculty examination officer, Dr. Harris Boma Opusunju, said the 22 students in the faculty engaged in exam malpractice in the first semester under the current academic session.

The students involved are from different departments with seven from Public Health departments, two in Radiography, six in Physiology and seven are undergraduates of MBBS.

A breakdown showed that seven students were caught cheating with their phones, 13 with snuggled materials and two used earpods in the exam hall.

According to the memo, 17 students are in 200 level and five in 300 level. Daily Sun further gathered that they would soon face a university panel.

The one-page memo to the HOD revealed that the examination fraud was committed on March 17th (15 students), 18th (four students), 27th, 28th and April 1st, 2026.

Medical Biochemistry is one of the three foundation departments of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences of the College of Medical Sciences of the university.
