Lagos State Governor, Bababjide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday handover 270 home units at Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Estate in Ikotun-Igando Local Council Development Area of the state as part of measures at bridging housing deficit.
The commissioning of the completed housing project is coming after 21 years of commencement which had been left uncompleted by past administrations.
The governor said his administration will continue to encourage private sector investments in its efforts at building affordable, quality and decent homes for residents in livable communities.
Sanwo-Olu appealed to beneficiaries of the estate to take ownership of the project and protect it from vandals, promised to complete the over 200 housing units phase two and over 300 units in phase three for more residents to benefit irrespective of their ethnicity or political affiliations.
He urged the traditional rulers and community leaders to provide more lands for government to build more infrastructures in the rural areas.
In his welcome address, the state’s Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, noted that the project was faced with numerous setbacks and challenges including pauity of fund, large scale vandalism and theft.
Despite these obstacles, the commissioner said the state government was still committed to delivering the vital project to the people, hence, the strategy of completion by cluster arrangements.
He called on the private sector to partner the state government to provide more affordable housing for residents.
“We are thrilled to finally break through the barriers that have held us back for so long with the delivery of the first cluster comprising 270 homes,”Akinderu-Fatai said.
The mixed housing estate cluster phase one has external features which included water treatment plant, central sewage system, Electricity ingestion station and car parks among others.
