A group based in Abuja, Support for Impactful Governance (SIG), has declared its support for the re-election of the member representing Nasarawa Federal Constituency in Kano State, Shehu Hassan Hussain, citing what it described as his outstanding performance in office.

The group’s spokesperson, Dapo Ipoola, a media consultant, stated that Hussain has earned another term through his consistent delivery and commitment to his constituents.

In a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday and signed by Ipoola, SIG emphasized that re-election is fundamentally tied to performance. According to the group, the process involves a thorough evaluation of a public office holder’s achievements, with voters ultimately deciding whether such performance merits continuity. It noted that many politicians fail to secure a second term due to poor representation, while those who demonstrate effective and responsive leadership often earn renewed mandates.

Highlighting Hussain’s record, the group described his representation in the House of Representatives as diligent, accountable, and people-oriented. It pointed to his advocacy on national issues, particularly insecurity in Northern Nigeria, where he has called for increased recruitment into security agencies, constitutional backing for state policing, and enhanced support for local vigilante groups.

SIG further outlined several legislative efforts sponsored by Hussain, including bills for the establishment of a Federal Vocational Skills Acquisition College in Yankaba, a National Institute for Cardiovascular Disease Research and Treatment in Kano, and a National Centre for Substance Abuse Management and Treatment. He also backed amendments to the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act and initiatives to strengthen mortgage banking systems.

In addition, Hussain has sponsored motions addressing key infrastructural and economic concerns, such as the rehabilitation of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, the revival of major industrial estates in Kano, and an investigation into the activities of the Bureau of Public Enterprises between 2019 and 2023.

On constituency development, the lawmaker has implemented a wide range of projects and empowerment programs. These include financial support for small businesses, assistance to vulnerable groups, provision of tools for artisans, scholarships for students, and distribution of educational materials. He has also facilitated the installation of solar-powered boreholes, transformers, and water supply systems across several communities.

Infrastructure projects credited to him include the construction and renovation of schools, healthcare centres, roads, and a mini stadium, as well as the establishment of skills acquisition centres. In the education sector, he has supported students through scholarships and payment of examination fees, benefiting institutions such as Bayero University Kano, Ahmadu Bello University, and others.

The group concluded that Hussain’s track record in education, youth empowerment, and infrastructure development distinguishes him as a representative who has prioritized the welfare of his constituents. It expressed confidence that his contributions would continue to resonate and justify his re-election in 2027.
