The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed ongoing discussions among opposition parties to present a joint presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, Ini Ememobong, spokesperson of the Turaki-led PDP National Working Committee (NWC), said opposition leaders are aware of time constraints and are adjusting their strategy accordingly.
He noted that one of the considerations being discussed is the possibility of extending timelines within the political process to accommodate broader consensus-building.
“The opposition leaders are clearly aware of the pressures of time, which is why one of the demands is an elongation of time,” Ememobong said.

He stressed that opposition parties are determined to operate within the provisions of the law to prevent what he described as the emergence of a one-party system in the country.
“We are determined within the ambit of the law to ensure that a one-party system is not foisted on this country and that there will be credible alternatives,” he said.
Ememobong added that opposition forces remain committed to preparing for the elections regardless of the timeline eventually set, insisting they are fully ready for the contest.
“So no matter what timeline is given, we are getting set, we are ready and the end will justify the means,” he stated.
The remarks come amid growing political realignments and consultations among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
