Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed reports that he reached an agreement with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to share legislative seats and local government positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Adeleke described the reports as fabricated, insisting that his political coalition with supporters of President Bola Tinubu is focused exclusively on securing the President’s re-election.

The governor’s clarification followed social media reports alleging that an understanding between him and the Presidency included sharing seats in the Senate, House of Representatives, Osun State House of Assembly and local government positions between Accord and the APC.

In a statement, Adeleke said no such agreement existed, adding that candidates of different parties would compete for legislative positions in the forthcoming elections.

“As I said while inaugurating the Presidential Campaign Council, the coalition is targeted at the presidential election. Partners agreed to join hands to ensure our dear president is re-elected. All other legislative positions are open for competition,” he said.

Adeleke, who reaffirmed his commitment to Tinubu’s re-election, said he would campaign for Accord candidates seeking election into the National Assembly and the Osun State House of Assembly.

“I will work and campaign for Accord candidates for Senate, House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly,” he said.

He urged political parties participating in the coalition to campaign for their respective candidates in other elections, stressing that voters would ultimately determine the winners.

“We have no deal on the National Assembly and the State Assembly elections. All our candidates will face the electorate who has the final say,” the governor said.

On the lingering local government crisis in Osun, Adeleke said discussions were ongoing to protect the interests of all stakeholders, including APC chairmen and elected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen and councillors.

He maintained that resolving the dispute was necessary to restore grassroots governance and strengthen preparations for the 2027 elections.

“As the governor of all Osun indigenes and residents, we are working to resolve the local government matter by ensuring that all interests are protected and cared for,” he said.

Adeleke added that stakeholders had agreed that restoring grassroots governance was essential to the coalition’s electoral preparations.

He expressed confidence that the local government crisis would be resolved before the end of the year.

The governor’s statement seeks to draw a clear line between cooperation aimed at supporting Tinubu’s re-election and competition among political parties for other elective offices in 2027.
