The c, has assured that no political party or candidate will receive preferential treatment from the Nigeria Police Force ahead of the off-cycle and 2027 general elections.

Disu gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Joash Amupitan, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

He reiterated the commitment of the police to ensuring a level playing field for all participants in the electoral process.

“I can assure you that no political party or candidate will receive preferential treatment from the police during the course of this election. We will treat everyone equally and ensure smooth elections,” the IGP said.

Describing the police as the lead agency for internal security, he stated that the force is fully prepared to guarantee peaceful and violence-free elections across the country.

“We are ever ready for peaceful elections and will strive to ensure violence-free polls,” he added.

The police chief also assured the electoral body of adequate security support and called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to ensure credible elections.

Earlier, Amupitan said the visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation between INEC and the police in preparation for the forthcoming elections.

He noted that insecurity and electoral violence remain major threats to credible polls, stressing the need for robust security arrangements.

“Without proper arrangements and a secure environment, the electorate and contestants will not have the opportunity for free and peaceful elections,” he said.

The meeting underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding Nigeria’s democratic process and ensuring credible electoral outcomes.
