From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja
African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has said Nigeria needs to chart a new course with the 2027 general election.
Hayatu-Deen, who stated this on Thursday in Abuja, while briefing journalists, on his quest to seek the ADC presidential ticket for the 2027 polls, said that this is neither the Nigeria we were promised nor the “Nigeria that we deserve.”
The presidential hopeful decried the state of affairs in the country, noting that apart from the insecurity ravaging the country, Nigeria are also facing hard times economically.
The former banker explained that that is the reason he has joined other leaders of the ADC to fix the problems in the country, which has been allowed to fester.
According to him, “Nigeria stands at a crossroads. And at such moments, nations do not drift, they move forward with momentum. They choose either the noble path of renewal or the easy slide into decline.
“For too long, we have made the wrong choices, tolerated weak systems, and watched as the gap between our potential and our reality has widened.
Today, that gap is no longer abstract, it is felt in the rising cost of living, in the insecurity that threatens lives and livelihoods, and in the growing sense of uncertainty about the future.
Everyday, the signs around us suggest that we are drifting too close to that decline.

“The country that we love continues to pile pressures on everyday Nigerians, while the promise of a better life increasingly feels out of reach.
Food prices continue to rise. Petrol prices continue to climb.
“For millions of families, the simple act of getting through the day has become a test of endurance rather than a pursuit of opportunity. Everyday Nigerians are not only burdened economically, they are also increasingly unsafe and insecure. In too many parts of our country, communities live under the shadow of fear, uncertain of what tomorrow may bring.”
Furthermore, he stated that “This is not the Nigeria that we were promised. And it is definitely not the Nigeria that we deserve. And it must not be the Nigeria that we accept. That is why I have joined other leaders in the ADC, to fix the problems that have been allowed to get progressively worse. We need to take a new course. A course that is anchored on clarity, discipline, and leadership that puts Nigerians first and restores confidence in our future.”
Hayatu-Deen, while stating that he has the requisite qualification and experience to lead the country out of its present challenges, noted that Nigerians are desirous of a new kind of politics.
“Nigerians are tired of the same old politics, where promises are made loudly and broken quietly, where leadership is consumed by factionalism instead of being focused on results. What this season in our national consciousness demands is practical solutions and results.
“My record, my experience, and my lifetime of service demonstrate clearly what I am capable of offering the ADC and the nation. I have the experience and the capacity to contribute substantially to the victory of our party, to unite our country, and build a safer and more prosperous future for all Nigerians,” he stated
