2027: Morka accuses opposition of plot to weaponise results transmission

Felix-Morka

The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has accused opposition figures of plotting to use the issue of real-time transmission of election results as a strategy to challenge the outcome of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Morka alleged that prominent opposition leaders, including Peter Obi, Buba Galadima, Atiku Abubakar, and David Mark, were opposed to ongoing amendments to the Electoral Act because of a supposed plan to make real-time transmission of results a legal ground for invalidating future elections.

“So, let me tell you very quickly why Peter Obi, Galadima and his friends in the opposition are livid about this amendment. They were hoping to sell this dummy to the National Assembly and to Nigerians: that unless results are transmitted in real time, that becomes grounds to invalidate the election in 2027. That was it—it was a game plan,” he said.

“Buba Galadima knows, Atiku Abubakar knows, Peter Obi knows, and David Mark knows that connectivity is not universal in all the territories and voting districts of Nigeria,” he added.

According to him, the opposition had hoped to “sell” the idea to the National Assembly and Nigerians that any failure to transmit results electronically and in real time should automatically nullify an election. A move he described as a calculated political strategy rather than a genuine reform effort.

Morka argued that such a provision would be impractical, given that network connectivity is not available across all voting districts and remote communities in Nigeria.
