The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde says it will screen 3,181 aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections as it pushes on with preparations for candidate selection nationwide.
The faction disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, announcing the constitution of screening committees and appeal panels in line with its election timetable.
A breakdown of the figures shows that 2,122 aspirants are seeking State House of Assembly tickets, 748 are contesting for the House of Representatives, 198 are vying for Senate seats, while 112 governorship aspirants and one presidential hopeful are also listed for screening.
“Following the approved Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Elections by the National Executive Committee at its 104th Meeting, the Interim National Working Committee hereby announces the publication of members to serve as the Screening Committees and Screening Appeal Panels,” the statement said.

The faction fixed the screening exercise for Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 10am across the country and asked aspirants seeking clarification to contact its national secretariat.
The development highlights the widening crisis within the PDP, which remains divided between the Makinde-backed bloc and the rival camp loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The Makinde camp, operating under a 13-member Interim National Working Committee headed by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has continued with its election timetable, sale of nomination forms and internal preparations despite opposition from the Wike faction.
The Wike-aligned group has rejected the moves, describing them as unauthorised, even as Makinde has openly declared interest in the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 race.
