• Ex-President meets Tompolo in Yenagoa
From Femi Folaranmi
A former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Domestic Matters and Social Events, Dr. Waripamo-owei Dudafa, has formally announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has joined the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Dudafa, who also previously served as a member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, made the announcement in a statement issued to newsmen in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, yesterday.
In the letter of his resignation addressed to the Chairman, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Southern Opokuma/Ayibabiri Ward 8 in Kolokuma Opukuma Local Government Area, he stated that his decision to quit the PDP followed a period of deep reflection and consultation with his political associates, supporters, and family members.
“Throughout my time with the party, I have been deeply committed to our shared values and goals, and it has been an honour to work with so many dedicated individuals.”
He stated that the unresolved disputes, particularly at the national level, have significantly impeded the ability of the party to move forward. According to him the crisis has created an environment of conflict that’s no longer conducive to advancing the shared values and objectives.
“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This decision was not taken lightly but after due consultation with my friends, political associates, and family members who have stood by me over the years,” Dudafa said.
Meanwhile, Jonathan on Friday met with the former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo, at his country home, Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area.
Though full details of the meeting which was held behind closed doors and lasted about one hour were not disclosed, Jonathan said it was about sustaining the peace in the Niger Delta region.
According to Jonathan, the meeting which was at his instance was to discuss issues on complaints concerning the oil pipeline surveillance operations being handled by Tompolo’s firm, Tantita.
A source privy to the meeting, however, said the 2027 presidential election was also discussed.
The source said Tompolo was very frank with Jonathan at the meeting by telling him not to contest the 2027 presidential elections.
The ex-militant leader told Jonathan that he has already pledged his support to President Bola Tinubu.
