Renowned economist and banker, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has joined the contest for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket for the 2027 general election.

Hayatu-Deen entrance into the race for the ADC presidential ticket brings to five the number of aspirants jostling to be the opposition party’s standard bearer for next year’s presidential election.

Other aspirants include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; 2023 Labour Party ( LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and the former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Hayatu-Deen, while disclosing his intention to vie for the ADC ticket, in a television interview, noted that the present moment calls for a leadership that understands the pains of Nigerians and has the experience to address citizens concerns.

He expressed concerns over rising cost of living and insecurity across the country, noting that Nigeria  now spends more on ransoms than on properly equipping its security forces, while the Naira continues to weaken against other African currencies.

The presidential hopeful said  “food prices keep going up, petrol prices keep rising, and for many Nigerians, just getting through the day has become a struggle,” adding that “For too long, this government has looked away while Nigerians bear the burden of bad policies and rising insecurity.”

Hayatu-Deen noted that “this is not the Nigeria we deserve. It is time to change course, and that is why I am stepping forward to seek the ADC presidential ticket. Nigeria needs a calm and steady leader, someone who understands how to fix systems, create jobs, and secure lives and livelihoods. That is the leadership I offer.”

He implored ADC members to close rank, ahead of the next general election, stressing that unity within the party would be critical to winning in 2027.
According to him, “our strength lies in our unity. Nigerians are looking for a credible alternative, and the ADC must rise to that moment. Together, we can offer a real path forward, one that secures our country, grows our economy, and restores hope to our people.”
