A coalition of non-political organisations, the Southern Borno Concerned Citizens and the National Union of Southern Borno Students have appealed to aspirants jostling for the position of deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the southern part of Borno to support the newly nominated running mate.
The group made the appeal at a press conference, yesterday, in Maiduguri, urging all politicians aspiring for the deputy governorship position to shelve their aspirations for the nominee, Alhaji Ali Abdullah Isa.
National Chairman of the group, Alhaji Bulama Sawa said Isa’s nomination as the APC guber running mate was divine. He called on the other 27 hopefuls jostling for the position to accept the nomination in good faith.
“We are persuaded by Isa’s record of public service, administrative competence, humanitarian leadership and deep understanding of the needs of our people,” Sawa said.
The APC picked Isa as the running mate to the party’s governorship candidate, Mustapha Gubio for the 2027 election.
The group leaders said Isa’s endorsement was not based on sentiment but on the need for competence, experience and empathy in the next administration.
He noted that Isa, who hails from southern Borno, possesses the quality required for the office of the deputy governor, having headed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for years.
“We are confident that Isa possesses the capacity and commitment required to support the next administration in advancing peace and development,” he stated.
