2027: Forum targets 50 percent elective offices for youths

The Youth in Parliament Forum( YIPF), a platform for serving and former young lawmakers, has said it is working towards ensuring that young persons clinch 50 percent of elective positions in the country in 2027.

The Director General, YIPF, Tony Nwulu, disclosed this,on Thursday, in Abuja, while speaking on the efforts of the organization to mobilize youths for the 2027 general election.

Nwulu, who explained that the organization is collaborating with all the registered political parties to achieve its objective, said there are also plans to mobilize 20 million youths to register to vote in the 2027 polls.

According to him, it is crucial for youths to be actively involved in politics, so that they can take part in decisions that affects them.

“We are targeting 50% of young people. Regardless of which political party you’re coming from, 50% of it. We are working in collaboration with all the political parties youth wings to ensure that .
“The young people, I believe, need to be in the room where affairs concerning them are been discussed,” he stated.

Nwulu, who was a member of the House of Representatives, in the eight assembly, added that YIPF has also concluded plans to train a total of one million youths, across the country, on technological skills, and another 100,000 youth

He noted that the objective is to ensure that young persons are economically empowered, stating that the beneficiaries would be drawn from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) and the 19 registered political parties.

“The ICT skills training programme under the Take Action Campaign is a nationwide capacity-building initiative
aimed at equipping young Nigerians with relevant digital and technology skills required in today’s economy.
The programme covers a broad range of ICT disciplines including, but not limited to:cybersecurity fundamentals,data protection and privacy, data analytics, cloud computing and data governance,” Nwulu stated.
