Ahead of forthcoming general election, National Coordinator of Transporters for Tinubu/Shettima 2027, Prince Segun Obayendo, has assured stakeholders in the transport logistics chain of the commitment of the present administration to review the state of the sector in Nigeria.
He made this statement recently in Lagos at a meeting with the leadership of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO) and Lagos State Truck and Cargo Operators Committee (LASTCOC).
The meeting also brought together key stakeholders across the road and maritime transport space, including LASTCOC National Coordinator, Mr Lukman Shittu; National President, AMATO, Mr. Remi Ogungbemi, incoming President, Mr. Moruf Raheem, Secretary, Comrade Sani Bala, and VOT, AMATO, Otunba Leye Thomas, among others.
Discussions centred on the operational realities confronting transporters, including the rising cost of spare parts and fuel and persistent challenges operators face in moving cargo through Nigeria’s ports.
Obayendo, who described transporters as the backbone of Nigeria’s economy, said further that Tinubu/Shettima administration remains firmly committed to addressing the burdens of the sector. He averred that transporters’ voices will continue to occupy a central place in this government’s engagements.
Secretary of AMATO, Comrade Sani Bala, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the development of a marine and blue rail economy and the introduction of the National Single Window initiative, saying it is a decisive step towards eliminating bureaucratic bottlenecks in trade documentation.
He stated that these reforms are repositioning Nigeria to reclaim its rightful place in maritime trade and port cargo operations.
In their separate remarks, Ogungbemi, Raheem, Shittu and Otunba Thomas commended the federal government’s sustained investment in transport infrastructure and welcomed the continued engagement, affirming confidence that the partnership will deliver concrete outcomes for operators across road, rail and maritime transport.
Both parties resolved to deepen collaboration in the coming weeks as part of the movement’s nationwide mobilisation of transporters across road, rail, maritime, aviation, pipeline and logistics sectors.
