A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Comrade Abdullah Damilare Azeez, has described the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) as a bonafide son of Ogun State, warning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against what he termed cheap blackmail ahead of the 2027 polls.

Azeez, who is a member of the Student Affairs Committee of the APC Ogun State Campaign Council, stated this in a statement issued on Saturday.

He said the PDP has continued to push the narrative that Senator Adeola is not from Ogun State, a claim he tagged old, tired and baseless propaganda.

“Let me put it straight to our friends in PDP Ogun State: If this is all you have to campaign with in 2027, then you have already failed. You don cast already,” he said.

“For how many years now, one song: ‘Yayi is not from Ogun State.’ The same old, tired and baseless propaganda. Is this your manifesto? Is this your achievement for Ogun people?” Azeez queried.

He said Senator Adeola hails from Pahayi, Ilaro, in Yewa South Local Government, adding that his father, the late Ayinde Adeola Ogunleye a.k.a OTEKO, is from Pahayi, Ilaro, while his mother is from Kemta, Abeokuta.

According to him, Adeola’s lineage, family house and people are all in Yewa land, stressing that being born and raised in Lagos does not erase his origin.

“Yes, he was born and raised in Lagos because his parents lived there just like thousands of Ogun indigenes born in Lagos, Ibadan, Osun, Rivers, Delta, Kano etc. Does that remove their origin? Even your PDP leaders were born outside their villages,” he said.

Azeez, who is State Director of Mobilization for Yayi Students Vanguard, accused the PDP of focusing on what he called DNA tests on social media while Senator Adeola is facilitating projects and empowering students, market women, artisans, traditional rulers and youths across Ogun West, Central and East.

“Yayi has shown more love to Ogun State than PDP did in their years in power. Where were you when Ogun students needed bursary and scholarships? Where were you when our people needed federal opportunities? Yayi brought it,” Azeez stated.

He advised the opposition to change its approach, saying Ogun people are now wiser and want development and capacity.

“This ‘he is not from Ogun’ pattern don cast, e don expire. Ogun people are wiser now. They want development, they want capacity, they want a leader who delivers and that is Senator Yayi,” he added.

Azeez said his group remains focused on the victory of Senator Adeola in 2027, adding that no distraction will stop it.

“Ogun State is Yayi’s home. Yewa is his root. No amount of propaganda can change history. Yayi is coming, and Ogun State will be better for it,” he said.
