Progressive Serving Councillors’ Forum of Nigeria has endorsed the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu.
The unanimous decision was taken at the two-day national solidarity convention of the association in Abuja, yesterday, with over 8, 000 progressive councillors in attendance.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the General Secretary of the Association, Adeoye Adeniyi from Ondo State, said the decision was not based on party affiliation, but based on performance as evidence for all to see.
He said: “Though the President is a member of our party, APC, the decision to endorse him for re-election in 2027 was purely because of what he has done in various areas of the economy, which we could see and feel.”
He disclosed that councillors from other political parties are also in consultation with the association for the purpose of endorsing and working for the President’s re-election in next year’s general election.
He added: “We did not make any bargain or secure any commitment or promises from him before taking the decision. It was purely based on his performance and his record in the past few years that he has been running the affairs of the country, and our conviction that he will do better in the next cycle.”
Facilitator of the convention, Ademola Abudulwakeel, in his remarks, said the decision to endorse the re-election bid of the President followed a wide consultation with all relevant stakeholders within and outside the association.
“Besides, the President’s achievements are there for all persons to see. Unfortunately, the President’s media team is not doing much in pushing out the good works of the President. But, we have decided to do that because we have seen the good policies the President has initiated and his infrastructural transformation and we want him to continue.”
He said the convention also provided the opportunity to educate and enlighten the councillors on the best approach to grassroots mobilisation vis-a-vis things required for effective mobilisation and conviction of voters at the polls.
He added: “At the end, all the members of the Progressive Serving Councillors are committed to pushing out the good works of the government at federal, state and local government levels. You could see that all the participants wore a T-shirt with the inscription, ‘The Mandate to Mobilize and Deliver My Ward for BAT-2027.”
