Former President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Nigerian leaders to prioritise integrity, humility, and sincere service as the country enters 2026, while calling on citizens to match patriotism with renewed duty.
In his New Year message, Jonathan extended greetings to Nigerians and friends worldwide, expressing gratitude to God for the gift of life and a new beginning.
Reflecting on 2025, he acknowledged the nation’s challenges, including economic pressures and persistent insecurity that tested resilience and caused hardship for many families.
“These experiences remind us of the responsibility we bear toward one another and the importance of people-oriented leadership,” Jonathan said.

He praised Nigerians for their courage, solidarity, and determination amid difficulties, describing the nation’s resilience as its greatest strength and the foundation for unity, peace, and progress.
Looking ahead, the former president called for renewed commitment to shared ideals.
“Patriotism must be matched with a renewed sense of duty by citizens and leaders alike,” he stated.
“Leadership at all levels must be anchored in service, guided by humility, integrity, and a sincere commitment to the welfare of the people.”
Jonathan emphasised that shared responsibility, mutual respect, and dedication to the national interest would drive stability and inclusive development.
