2026 guber: Ojo’s disqualification shows APC lacks capacity to run its internal democracy – Ekiti PDP Chieftain, Ogunsakin

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Hon. Deji Ogunsakin, has said that the recent disqualification of Engr Kayode Ojo, ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC), October 27, governorship.primary election in the state, clearly showed that the APC lacked the capacity to run its own internal democracy.

Ogunsakin, a former Chairman of Ado-Ekiti Local Government Area, also said the development is”a testament to APC’s deep unpopularity in Ekiti State.”

Ojo, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the APC for the 2026 election in Ekiti State, was on Thursday, disqualified from participating in the party’s forthcoming primary and next year’s gubernatorial elections in the state, by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

Ogunsakin, in a statement he personally signed and made available to Daily Sun, on Saturday, said the PDP remained the only credible alternative, urging Ekiti people and those he described as ‘marginalised members of the APC” to join the PDP in its mission “to rescue Ekiti from the misrule of the ruling APC.”

Ogunsakin said, “The recent disqualification of Engr Kayode Ojo from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primary election in Ekiti State is more than an internal party affair. It is a loud and clear reflection of a ruling party drowning in its own contradictions, impunity, and deep unpopularity among the people it claims to govern.

“For years, the APC in Ekiti has portrayed itself as a party of progressives, a platform of fairness and democratic inclusion. Yet, time and again, its actions betray that promise. The orchestrated disqualification only exposes the deep rot within the party’s internal structure. It shows a desperate attempt to silence voices that threaten the narrow interests of those who have turned governance in Ekiti into a private enterprise.

“The people of Ekiti are watching. They remember the promises made by the APC to create jobs, infrastructure, industrial growth, and transparency. What have they received instead? A stagnant economy, decaying public institutions, and a government more interested in power games than the welfare of its citizens. It is therefore not surprising that the APC leadership is terrified of any figure within its ranks who can genuinely connect with the masses and challenge its culture of exclusion.

“Kayode Ojo’s disqualification is not just about eligibility; it is about fear. It is about a ruling elite that knows its popularity has waned and that the people are yearning for change. It is about those who prefer imposition to competition, and manipulation to merit. When a political party begins to reject its brightest and most credible members, it signals not strength but weakness, the kind that precedes a collapse.”

Continuing, he said, “For us in the opposition, this moment is instructive. The APC has once again shown the people of Ekiti that it cannot even run its own internal democracy, let alone govern a dynamic, educated, and politically conscious state like ours. Ekiti deserves better leaders who will rise from the people, not from the whims of a few godfathers in power.

“As the 2026 elections draw nearer, the people of Ekiti must not forget this episode. The disqualification of Kayode Ojo is not just an injustice to one man, it is a symbol of the APC’s contempt for fairness, merit, and the will of the people. It is a reminder that only a genuine alternative rooted in transparency, inclusion, and service can restore hope and dignity to governance in our beloved state.

” The tide is turning, and Ekiti is ready. The people have endured enough deception. What happened to Kayode Ojo is a symptom of a dying system and a signal that real change is necessary and inevitable.

“It is now evident that the APC fears genuine democracy because it has lost the confidence of the people. The disqualification of credible individuals within its ranks is an admission of failure and a reflection of its deep-seated internal decay.

” The Peoples Democratic Party remains the only credible alternative capable of restoring sanity, transparency, and people-centered governance in Ekiti State.

“I call on all well-meaning citizens, including the marginalised members of the APC, to join the PDP in our collective mission to rescue Ekiti from misrule and restore the dignity of our people.

” Ekiti deserves better. Leadership rooted in fairness, competence, and service. Under the PDP, Ekiti will rise again.”
