As political activities continue to gather steam ahead of the 2023 general elections, civil servants have be charged to be discerning and shun rumour mongering and misleading information.
The Head of Service in Delta State, Mr. Reginald Bayoko who gave the charge in Asaba, also urged civil servants to keep secret whatever is classified as official secret.
Bayoko was speaking on Friday at the closing ceremony of the 18th edition of Seven Weekend Management Training Course for Senior Staff organised by the office of the HoS in collaboration with the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON).
He described the political transition era as both tempting and challenging for civil servants, but urged them to avoid dual loyalty and stay committed to serving the current master.
“My charge is that our loyalty as civil servants lies with the master we are serving at the moment.
“And given the current situation, you will be romanced by the various parties and candidates.
“We should be very discerning, let us shun rumour mongering, misleading information and keep secret official secrets. Don’t let third party come in.
“As individuals, you may have political sentiments which nobody can take away from you, but you must understand that the service has its own ethos which you must abide to,” he said.
Bayoko congratulated the 174 course participants who would now be promoted to the directorate cadre, and thanked the state government for it’s support to the annual training.
He also commended ASCON for providing reliable partnership, even as he enjoined the beneficiaries to reciprocate government gesture through diligent, dedicated and committed service.
Director-General of ASCON, Mrs. Cecilia Umar-Gayya, had said 174 participants successful completed the seven weeks course out of the 192 that started it.
Represented by the Director of Studies, Mr. Goodluck Audu, Gayya disclosed that a total of 1,192 public servants in the state have successfully completed the higher management course since 2016.
Gayya thanked the state government for keeping faith with the programme through the office of the HoS.
