Ahead of the 2019 general elections, wife of the President, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has advocated for deeper women involvement in the legislative processes to enhance national development.
She said this yesterday at the 2017 international security workshop organised by the Skyhigh Security Safety and Skills Limited in Abuja.
She said: “The number of women in the National and State Assembly is very low and because of this, it is affecting women from participating in the legislative processes in the county, thereby, affecting the growth of the country.”
Represented by the former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Mrs Pauline Tallen, she stressed that women constitute over 52 per cent of the nation’s population, adding that if women are neglected in participating in national issues, it would breed development imbalance.
Commenting on the theme of the programme, “Women, peace advocacy and security matters for nation building”, the first lady opined that women play a vital role in conflicts management.
