The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun State Command, has confirmed the death of two persons in an accident that occurred along Ife-Ondo road on Thursday.

The Sector Public Education Officer, Agnes Ogungbemi, who confirmed the incident yesterday, attributed the cause to excessive speeding and loss of control.

She disclosed that the Toyota Venza with registration number BWR 909 SD plunged into Etioni River along Ife-Ondo road, and that rescue operation had been concluded.

“The local divers were contacted and they eventually located the final resting place of the vehicle. A tow truck was used to bring the vehicle out of the river, after which two male casualties were discovered as the occupants of the crashed vehicle.

“The relations of the dead bodies were present at the scene. In accordance with the tradition of the community, the corpses were buried by the riverside.

“After the rescue operation, the retrieved crashed vehicle was handed over to the DPO Nigeria Police Force, Ifetedo Division,” FRSC stated.

The Sector Commander of FRSC Osun, CC Henry Benamaisia, warned motorists to desist from excessive speeding that could lead to loss of lives and properties, saying that all road users must be safety conscious at all times and drive defensively.
