All is set for the 12th edition of the Annual Maritime Cup Football Competition organised by Nigeria’s leading maritime communication firm, Ships & Ports.

The Annual Maritime Cup Competition, which has recorded huge success since inception in 2009, was created by Ships & Ports to foster unity and encourage competitive sporting activities among industry stakeholders.

The Chief Executive Officer of Ships & Ports, Dr. Bolaji Akinola, said in a statement in Lagos that the competition will hold from October 18 to 28, 2022.

He said the tournament did not hold in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Annual Maritime Cup Football Competition was created by Ships & Ports in 2009 to encourage recreation and rekindle friendship and camaraderie among the employees of government agencies, private sector operators and regulators in the maritime industry. The annual competition usually attracts the participation of several notable private and government organisations.

“Past winners of the Maritime Cup since inception are the Nigerian Navy (2009), Micura Stevedoring Services (2010), Nigeria Customs Service (2011, 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2017), National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (2014), Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (2015), Nigerian Ports Authority (2018) and ENL Consortium Nigeria Limited (2019),” Akinola said.

He said the Annual Maritime Cup Football Competition is officiated by approved FIFA-badge referees, “and it is quite popular in the maritime industry, attracting the crème-de-la-crème of the industry”.

Akinola said the competition this year will at the National Stadium and NPA Sports Ground, both in Surulere, Lagos.
