A woman has been killed, and a vehicle suspected to belong to the military burnt late on Friday night as gunmen believed to be Boko Haram insurgents stormed Garkida, community, a town in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The woman was said to have been shot three times by the gunmen who invaded the town at about 1:45 am, shooting sporadically to scare away the residents.

The gunmen were said to have entered the town through Gar Fwahar on the outskirts of Garkida main town, shooting at the unsuspecting residents.

Some locals told Sunday Sun that they spent the whole night in the nearby mountains and bushes where they fled for safety as gunshots persisted.

According to a resident of Garkida, “right now, no one can tell you the number of casualties because everyone just ran for safety; but the gunmen were large in number. Even the military could not stand them as they were heavily armed.

“As time goes on, we should be able to ascertain the extent of damages.

“This is not the first time this is happening; we have become victims; they just come in, attack, destroy our properties, take   whatever they want before we return to pick up the pieces of our lives and whatever they left for us.”
