Borno Governor Babagana Zulum has appointed a professor of paediatrics as the new head of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (SPHCDA).
Zulum announced the appointment of Prof Mohammed Arab as the new head of the SPHCDA in a statement on Wednesday by his spokesman.
“Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Arab Alhaji as Executive Director of Borno State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (SPHCDA),” the governor said in the statement released by his spokesman, Malam Isa Gusau in Maiduguri.
Mohammed Alhaji, a professor of pediatrics, gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at the University of Maiduguri, was a commissioner of health between July 2022 and May 2023.
He also served as Chief Medical Director of Borno State’s Hospital Management Board from September 2020 to July 2022.
He was once the head of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital’s (UNTH) Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition / Infectious diseases specialist clinics.
His appointment came a day after UN warnings about severe food and nutrition crisis for nearly 700,000 children in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe, BAY states this year if urgent humanitarian responses are not deployed.
Similarly, Gov Zulum has reappointed Malam Isa Umar Gusau as his Special Adviser on strategy and publicity. Gusau, a former Assistant Editor with Daily Trust Newspapers in Abuja, had served in the same capacity between June 2019 and May 2023.
The governor also returned other media aides; BabaSheik Haruna (Senior Special Assistant Media) and AbdulRahman Bundi (Senior Special Assistant New Media). All appointments take immediate effect.
