The management of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced securing the release of another Prospective Corps Member (PCM) and the driver of the vehicle from the custody of their abductors nearly four months after their kidnap last year.
The eight PCMs from Alwa-Ibom state, traveling to Sokoto state orientation camp for their compulsory one year service and abducted along Zamfara state, have been in the custody of their abductors ever since then.
NYSC, in a statement issued by Eddy Megwa, Director, Press and Public Relations, disclosed that the latest release was secured by combined efforts of the scheme and the military.
Announcing that the release brought the total number of PCMs already freed to five, the statement read: “A combined efforts of the scheme and the military have witnessed further release of another female PCM, including the driver of the bus kidnapped in Zamfara state on their way to NYSC Orientation Camp in Sokoto state last year.
“This brings the total number of PCMs already released to five, while efforts are still ongoing to ensure the remaining three (one female and two male) still in captivity regain their freedom soonest.
“The Director General, NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, appreciates the security agents for their untiring efforts that resulted in the release of the PCMs.
“The scheme will never shirk its responsibility of upholding the welfare of corps members at all times,” the management assured in the statement.
