The Zamfara State government has initiated proactive measures to ensure efficient erosion control across the state.
This was disclosed in a statement by the information officer of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Comrade Abubakar Aliyu, during a recent inspection of areas engaged in gutter evacuation and sanitation exercises. He noted the significance of these efforts, particularly in light of the forthcoming rainy season.
The Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Alhaji Kasimu Sani Kaura, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Rilwanu Musa Zurmi, highlighted the ministry’s successful evacuation of drainages in strategic locations, including Sadiq Sadiq Road to Old Prison, Nasiha Chemist to Kwanar Dango, Specialist Hospital down to Kasuwar Kanawa, and Gangaren Kwata, all within Gusau, the state capital.
The Commissioner commended Governor Dauda Lawal for his unwavering support for the ministry’s operational initiatives. He also recognised the collaborative efforts of Kabiru Dan YaDodo, Chairman of the Zamfara Youth Sanitation Program (ZAYOSAP), and Muhammad Zangina Abdullahi, Executive Chairman of the Zamfara State Environmental Protection and Enforcement Agency (ZEPEA).
In a related development, the ministry is preparing to celebrate World Environment Day on June 5, 2025, by planting over a thousand trees in public spaces, schools, markets, and other significant areas. This effort aims to promote environmental sustainability and enhance greenery within the community.
The celebration will not only involve planting tree seedlings but also aim to raise awareness about critical environmental issues and encourage sustainable practices among the populace.
