Zamfara Dep Gov brokers peace between Fulani herdsmen, farmers

As parts of effort to ensure that the current relative peace and security being enjoyed in Zamfara State is sustained, the state’s Deputy Governor, Mallam Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad, on Monday, visited Mutu village in Wonaka district area of Gusau Local Government Area to reconcile Fulani herders and Hausa farmers.

Wakkala, who is the Chairman Peace and Reconciliation Committee set up by the state government to dialogue with armed bandits to bring an end to cattle rustling and banditry in the state, called on the warring parties to embrace the peace and unity between themselves and ensure that they embrace  the dialogue  mechanism Initiated by the State Government as no society can develop without peace.

He described peace as a baby which needed to be nursed in order for it to grow.

Wakkala urged the people of the area to always report any person or group of persons who defy the peace truce to the leaders of their community.

In their Separate Response,  the leaders of the two feuding factions resolved to embrace the peace truce and promised to live peacefully with one another.

They commended the government for taking the prompt action by intervening before the crises escalates and lead to wanton destruction of lives and property.

They attributed the causes of the causes of the constant clashes between them to lack of proper communication and therefore promised to stop taking the laws into their hands.
