Cultural diplomacy and international tourism relations took centre stage in Abuja as the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Centre launched its inaugural Turkish Coffee Talks, hosting Adefunke Oni, Global Ambassador of the African Tourism Board, as its distinguished first guest.

What began as a symbolic conversation over a cup of traditional Turkish coffee evolved into a rich and engaging dialogue exploring culture, tourism, and cross-border collaboration between Nigeria and Türkiye. Ambassador Oni shared heartfelt reflections and personal insights from her experiences in Türkiye, offering guests a deeper appreciation of the country’s heritage, hospitality, and cultural identity.

The event, held at the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Centre in Abuja, convened members of the diplomatic community, institutional leaders, and cultural stakeholders. It provided a unique platform where shared experiences, curiosity, and mutual learning blended seamlessly in an atmosphere defined by warmth and intellectual engagement.

In her remarks, Ambassador Oni described the gathering as a reaffirmation of the transformative power of culture and tourism in fostering global unity.

“It was an honour to be part of Turkish Coffee Talks, a gathering that reaffirms the power of culture, tourism, and storytelling in building meaningful connections across borders,” she stated.

She expressed appreciation to Director Fatih Erkin Mahdum and the Centre’s team for their hospitality and for curating an initiative that promotes dialogue, understanding, and cultural exchange.

Organisers highlighted that Turkish coffee long regarded as a symbol of connection and conversation within Turkish culture served as more than a beverage during the event; it became a metaphor for shared humanity and enduring partnerships.

The session concluded with renewed optimism for strengthening bilateral cultural and tourism relations between Nigeria and Türkiye. With its inaugural edition setting a strong precedent, Turkish Coffee Talks is poised to become a dynamic platform for sustained intercultural dialogue and collaboration.
