As the hustle and bustle of Christmas travels begins, commuters and passengers traveling for the yuletide celebration have lauded the Benue state Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia for the 2025 Christmas transport fare reduction Bbonanza.

In a statement dated December 8, 2025, the General Manager of the state owned transport company, Alexander Fanafa, had explained that the transport fare reduction initiative, was done in compliance with the directive of Governor Alia to provide an additional reduction on the existing fare relief regime of the Company.

Fanafa noted that the bonanza applies to both inter-state and intra-state routes, starting from December 8, 2025, to Friday 2nd January, 2026.

The company, boss said besides playing a regulatory role in the transport sector in Benue State, the bonanza, in addition to providing customers with extra funds to cater for other expense, no matter how little, will also help prevent the exploitation of commuters through exorbitant fares during the yuletide season.

Our correspondent reports that with the bonanza, trips to Lagos, Kano, Owerri, Enugu and Port Harcourt which cost N22,000, N15,000, N16,000 and N11,500 now goes for N21,000, N14,000, N15,500 and N11,000 while Abuja fares has been reduced from N10,000 to N9000 for AC bus, N10,000 for sharon and N8000 for bus.

Some passengers, My Ike Onah, Stephanie Jando and Ogah James, who spoke to our correspondent at the park on Sunday, appreciated Governor Alia and the management of Benue links for their good gestures.

Onah stated that at a time when transporters are increasing transport fares and exploiting travellers, the state government is rather doing bonanza describing it as encouraging and commendable.

Stephanie, who also recalled that state government did the same last year, 2024 December, lauded the governor for his kindness urging him to keep up the good work.

As. result of the reduction, our correspondent observed that many travellers have abandoned other transport companies for Benue Links.

At the time of visit on Sunday morning, the the crowd of passengers surged into the Benue Links park with many bearing loads including bags of rice, yams and other luggages.

The Information Officer, Benue Links Nigeria Limited, Johnson Ehi, said the company is not overwhelmed but has the capacity to manage and transport the crowd.

“No, we are not overwhelmed.

Even though, the crowd is much due to the ongoing Christmas transport fare reduction bonanza, there are vehicles on ground to cover all the routes and they are doing so.

“We hope to serve the safe, comfortable, reliable and affordable transport service that we are known for, at the reduced fare this Christmas Season as we look forward to keep improving on it in the coming year 2026.”
