Young Stars FC crowned champions of 16th Igando Ramadan Cup

Young Stars FC emerged champions of the 16th edition of the Igando Ramadan Cup following a convincing 2–0 victory over Sterling City FC in the final held on Sunday, March 22, 2026, in Igando.

After days of intense competition, Young Stars FC sealed their triumph with a composed performance, earning a grand prize of ₦400,000, a giant trophy, medals, and 2kg bags of rice for both players and officials. Runners-up Sterling City FC received ₦200,000, a trophy, a set of jerseys, and rice for their team and officials.

The decisive moment of the match came in the 21st minute when Sterling City FC conceded an unfortunate own goal. Young Stars FC doubled their lead in the 47th minute through Taofeek Saheed, whose goal effectively secured the title. Both goals were set up by Oscar Oderinde, who came on as a substitute in the 19th minute and proved to be a game-changer with his outstanding performance.

Prior to the goals, Sterling City FC had dominated proceedings, controlling possession and dictating the tempo before the costly defensive error shifted momentum in favor of Young Stars FC.

The tournament, organized by Prince GAS Global Sports Concept, attracted several notable personalities from the Igando/Ikotun LCDA and surrounding communities.

Among the dignitaries present were Mr. Samuel of Digivant Microfinance Bank; Mr. Olasunkanmi Raheem, Supervisor for Sports, Igando/Ikotun LCDA; Mr. Sikiru of Pyramid Edge; Otunba Bamidele, Managing Director of GT Water; Mr. Tosin Abiti; Mr. Moses Ade Banjo, former Chairman of the Lagos State Referee Association; and Otunba Kazeem Bakinson, Chairman of White Stone Hotel, who supported individual awards.

Outstanding performances were also recognized at the tournament. Abdullah Arolagbade of Young Stars FC was named Best Coach, while Sheun Makinwa of Asemalu FC finished as the highest goal scorer. Happy 2026 Ovieon of IG FC won the Young Best Player award, and Kazeem Obayemi of Asemalu FC was named Oldest Best Player. Hamed Ajibade of Young Stars FC emerged as Best Goalkeeper, while Oscar Oderinde was crowned Most Valuable Player. Sterling FC received the Fair Play award, and Robert Eke of Jossam FC was recognized as Best Behaved Coach.

Speaking after the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Prince GAS Global Sports Concept, Prince Gbadamosi Adebola Sulaimon, expressed gratitude to partners, sponsors, teams, and fans for their support, while promising an even bigger and better tournament in the next edition.
