Youth Orientation for Development (YOD) UNESCO has launched Project D-100, a major digital empowerment initiative aimed at providing free website development, branding support, and digital capacity-building to 100 schools and Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) across Africa.
The programme, announced under the leadership of YOD UNESCO President, Ambassador Emmanuel Ejiogu, is targeted at bridging the digital divide that limits many underserved institutions from accessing essential online tools.
Project D-100 is initiated and led by Godwin Iheuwa, the Head of Digital Development at YOD UNESCO, who developed the idea in response to the limited digital visibility and resources available to schools and local businesses.
Iheuwa explained that the project seeks to extend digital opportunity to institutions that struggle to participate effectively in today’s interconnected economy.
“The first phase will support 100 institutions, while plans for a second phase have already been outlined to reach an additional 200 schools and SMEs. The long-term vision is to digitally empower 5,000 institutions across Africa, creating one of the continent’s largest community-driven digital transformation movements.
“The implementation team is made up of young creatives and technology enthusiasts, with more than 50 volunteers contributing their skills in web development, design, digital marketing, and content creation. The volunteer division is coordinated by Eze Akalugwu, who serves as Head of Volunteers for Project D-100,” he said.
Ambassador Emmanuel Ejiogu noted that the wider vision of Project D-100 aligns with YOD UNESCO’s commitment to digital inclusion, youth development, and community empowerment across Africa.
According to Eǰiogu, the initiative provides free website creation or enhancement, social media setup and optimization, branding support, content development, digital mentorship, training, and skill-building opportunities for young volunteers.
Registration is open on the project portal, where schools, SMEs, and volunteers can sign up at no cost. YOD UNESCO described Project D-100 as a significant step in its digital development agenda and reaffirmed its dedication to sustainable impact and digital empowerment across the continent.
